Running with Soul: Meet Elizabeth (#10)

Featured Runner: Elizabeth

Name/Nickname: Elizabeth/ Lizzie

How many years have you been running?

I have been running for about 10 years. I started as a freshmen in high school, doing cross country.

Little bit about yourself:

I am a stay at home mom, that decided after reaching 231 pounds, needed to change my lifestyle. I was always active in high school, but slowed down after the birth of my daughter in 2011. I made a goal to get to a healthy weight before we would try to get pregnant with our second, a boy born a few weeks ago. I am back to the grind, trying to lose some baby weight. I love packing up my babies and going for long walks, because here in Florida the fall weather is perfect for it. I have a great life, and family!

Who or what inspires you to run?

My biggest inspiration is seeing that old picture of myself at 231 pounds. I never want to be her again. But “the who” is definitely my beautiful family. I want my kids to look up to me, run with me, and never know that pain of losing a parent too soon because of preventable health issues.

 What is your running mantra?

"Just make it to the next mailbox...then the next after that!"

What is your favorite running/fitness blog?

Oooh...definitely would have to be Jenny Hodges is Metamorfit! She is amazing, and has lost over 200 pounds!

What has been your most memorable race?

My very first race after losing my weight. It was a 5k Trail Run in the swamp!

What is your dream race? (Besides Boston)

That is a tough question...I really want to do a triathlon.

What are you currently training for?

I am retraining for a 5k. I had to stop running while pregnant due to a back injury. But square one is better than square none!

What one piece of running gear can you not live without?

If you could share any words of advice/encouragement to a new runner, what would it be?

Whether you are running at gazelle speed or turtle speed, you are a runner. Never let anyone tell you different. It is what is in your heart, not on the mph!

Be sure to follow Elizabeth on her journey:

Thank you so much Elizabeth! I absolutely love your running mantra! When I started running there was a mailbox I would run and back from each morning. As I got stronger I would choose another mailbox to run to during my morning runs. It was such a great motivator to see how much I progressed!

Be sure to check back each week as another runner shares their journey of running with soul.

Happy Running!
