Musical Monday with a dash of Motivation

Just another Manic Monday!

I think The Bangles were onto something. There is, in fact, an element truly gut wrenching about Monday's. Most of the time I feel as if I am scrambling to catch my breath, even if I planned ahead. Spending the entire weekend prepping for the beginning of the week still leaves me in a stressful funk.

So how do you cure a stressful funk?

Update your playlist (running or the tunes you listen to on the bus). So here are some tunes I recently added or rely on to get my mood back on par:

Harder to Breathe - Maroon 5
We R Who We R - Ke$ha

Now time for a hint of motivation for this Monday!

Last night, as with many a Sunday nights, I participated in #RunChat (which is amazing if you haven't heard of it yet, check it out) and met a fellow runner who felt embarrassed to call herself a runner.

I just wanted to reach out to all of my fellow "slow and steady" runners, who may be hesitant to call themselves a runner. I AM a runner. My first 5K of the year was just below 40 minutes and I was thrilled to be running the whole time. My longest training run has been 7 super slow miles. It does not matter how fast, it doesn't matter how far, running is running. We are all a band of brothers and sisters who find peace and purpose in the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other. Some may think we are a little crazy (maybe we are) but we are doing what we love.

"Just remember that everybody who is ahead of you has been the beginner at some point so everybody knows what it's like to be in your shoes. No one starts running leading the pack, but you have to start somewhere. If you stick with it, you will improve." - Bart Yasso

Some days it will be hard but remember we are all here cheering you on! The running community is a big and beautiful family! No matter what you will always find support and encouragement.

How do you stay motivated? Any words of advice for a new runner?

Happy Running!

Things I have learned during half marathon training (so far)

I cannot believe week 5 out of 21 is over. I have been having an absolute blast throughout training! I don't think it could be possible without the love and support from my spouse, family, friends and wonderful running community.

I am convinced that running is a metaphor for life and there are definite lessons to be learned some

more serious than others.

1. Hydration backpacks are amazing!

2. Rest is a critical component because exhaustion and running does not mix.

3. There is no such thing as TOO much compression gear.

4. A Running Coach can be the answers to your running slump. (Plus my coach is AMAZING!)

Laura is over at

5. A snuggle with Bear-Son is the best medicine to a long day.

Many more lessons to be learned and to be shared with all of you lovely people!

Have a fantastic week!

Happy Running!

What are lessons you learned during training?

Facts About Me From A to Z

Better late than never, right?

Some of my favorite runners over at Cookies on the Run and Laced up with Lipstick tagged me and I am finally catching up.

So here goes. Enjoy!

A. Attached or Single? Married to my best friend.

B. Best Friend? Besides my amazing spouse, my best friend is my sorority sister, Maggie. We have been friends for the past 5 years! She is always the person who can smack me back to reality and  help not take life TOO seriously.

C. Cake or Pie? Is it possible to choose both? I just think limitations like these come back and bite you. So, yes, sign me up for cake and pie!

D. Day of the Week? Friday, Friday, Friday! I mean maybe Rebecca Black was onto something. It is a Rest Day for me which means movie night with my little family.

E. Essential Item? iPhone! Is that lame? It has my training plan, music, Twitter and a camera! If I could just use it as a debit card at Target we would be set.

F. Favorite Color? Hot Pink and Black! I used to be completely opposed to pink but it has since grown on me.

G. Gummy Bears or Gummy Worms? Give me Haribo Gummy Bears any day.

H. Hometown? Mansfield, Texas. Point of reference is it is about 45 minutes south of Dallas. I am not gonna lie I miss my parents but I was excited to leave that little town.

I. Favorite Indulgence? I love running clothes! I will see a cute top and buy it even it is sleeveless and winter.

J. January or July? January. It means it is a month until my birthday.

K. Kids? No kids, but I have a Bear-Son. He is the absolute perfect final piece to our little family.

L. Life isn't complete without? My amazing little family. We balance each other, support each other and always find time to laugh.

M. Marriage Date? June 2012. Did I mention, we got had our ceremony and reception outside in June, in TEXAS? Yeah it was a blast!

N. Number of Brothers/Sisters? Zero. It is just my parents and I. Dad isn't pictured but he is not a big picture person.

O. Oranges or Apples? Apples! Gala and Granny Smith are my absolute favorite. There is an orchard near our home which means in a few weeks bushels of apples will be filling out kitchen.

P. Phobias? Roller Coasters. I will never and refuse to get on any type of roller coaster. I am terrified of the whole "Final Destination 4" moment to happen to little 'ole me. Overdramatic? Why yes I am!

Q. Favorite Quote? I have to pick just one...

R. Reasons to Smile? I have air in my lungs, food on my table, a roof over my head, and someone to share this beautiful life with

S. Season of Choice? I love fall! The changing of the colors, crisp air, and cute scarves mean a very happy gal.

U. Unknown Fact About Me? I am a horror movie FANATIC! Seriously, I could watch all the gore, ghosts, and zombies everyday, all day. For a while I think my parents thought I was seriously depressed but we determined I am just a little odd. :-)

V. Favorite Vegetable? Is there anything better than BROCCOLI? Give it to me any way and I will eat it up.

W. Worst Habit? I bite my nails. I think it used to be a nervous habit but now I am very conscience of it. I have gotten better but sometimes I never even realize I am doing it until it's too late.

X. X-Ray or Ultrasound? Ultrasound. Neither would be preferable because it would only mean I am injured.

Y. Your Favorite Food? Every super health nut reader may not like me after this but I cannot live without POTATOES! Quite possibly my one food flaw but I don't think I could give them up.

Z. Zodiac Sign? I was born on the cusp of Aquarius and Pisces. My entire life I have claimed Pisces but I think I have qualities of both signs! In short, I am a water sign who wears her emotions on her sleeve.

Good luck to everyone running or racing this weekend!

July Challenges

Well after announcing my personal fitness challenges for the month of July, I had many followers show interest in participating. I am so excited that so many have decided to challenge themselves and dedicate their lives to health. I created each of the calendars based on challenges I found on Pinterest. I adjusted them a bit to my own personal fitness level and removed the rest days normally occurring every 6 days. I would recommend that anyone participating to add rest days as needed, as well as, make sure to listen to your body. Challenges like this are fun and exciting but you wanna make sure you are not injuring yourself by overdoing it. I am excited and eager to start this month off with a bang.

Feel free to share this with your readers and followers by directing them to the following link:

I look foward to hearing about all of your success this month!

Happy July!
